Remember the shibori indigo dyeing class that I took in the fall? I've had more time for sewing lately, but I'm still in that mood of starting new projects rather than finishing the growing pile of partially pieced quilt tops. Last Friday, those hand-dyed shibori cottons were calling to me, and I decided to make a quick wall quilt, something that I would actually have the wherewithal to finish immediately. Here are the scenes from the work in progress over the weekend:

Since taking these photographs, I've finished the hand-quilting and cut off the extra backing fabric and batting around the edges. All I have to do now is add the binding, and I will have my first finished quilt of 2014!

Oooh, how wonderful this is! I was recently gifted some Japanese kimono remnant fabrics, and this reminds me of them. Are you going to bind it similarly or go completely wild?!
ReplyDeleteYes, wonderful!!!! Pls post the finished project!!
ReplyDeleteThose fabrics are lovely! The hand quilting adds such a nice detail to the quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I love the fabric, colours, prints and all. Sounds like it would have been an interesting class to take!
ReplyDeleteYay! for your first finish - it looks great! I love indigo fabric
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric and lovely project! I too feel the pull of fabric... some days are just meant to spend time on something new! Makes you ready to tackle the other projects! Thank you for visiting my blog! I will follow yours as I recognize some common interests.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful and I love that you handquilted it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. What a great first finish for 2014.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments, everyone! I just finished the quilt (well, except that I'll probably redo some of the hand-stitched binding, since some of the stitches accidentally went through to the front side), and I'm really happy with how it came out. Photographs next Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, what a fantastic finish!
